The Gold Three
Today I would write about three most
appreciated and prestigious awards that You can achieve as a professional
soccer player. Each of them are presented by FIFA at the end of each FIFA World
Cup to the best players in their field.
First of them The Gold Ball was introduced
by FIFA in 1982 during World Cup in Spain. First person awarded by it was Italian
forward player Paolo Rossi who showed his incredible skills by shooting hattrick
(three goals in one match) during match with Brazil.
You might think that only forward players can
win the Gold Ball. It’s not true, for them there is a dedicated award that I will
write about later. Gold ball is given for incredible skills, good pitch
orientation and very nice play.
The Golden Glove Award is awarded
to the best goalkeeper of the tournament. The award was introduced with the
name Lev Yashin Award in
1994, in honor of Russian goalkeeper who was considered by many in the
sport to be the greatest goalkeeper in the history of the game. First player
awarded by it was Michel Preud'homme who played in Belgium team.
He is known by his tendency to produce spectacular and decisive saves.
And last but not least The Gold Boot which
was introduced in 1982 under the name Golden shoe. This award goes to the most effective
(in scoring goals) player which is also a top goalscorer during World Cup. First
awarded player was also winner the first Gold Ball Paolo Rossi which shoot 6
goals on the World Cup.

ReplyDeleteIsn't the award called GOLDEN Ball? It would make more sense as a gold ball would be too heavy to even hold.
In my opinion, you could enumerate the most titeled players in each award.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that the Golden Ball was introduced only in 1982. I thought this award came up in the early 60s, when Puskás and Di Stéfano played in Real Madrid.
